Rules in Detail

Number of Players

A team consists of 2-4 players. A minimum of 2 players (from the team’s league roster) is needed to start and/or continue a game.   A player must play in the regular season in order to play in the playoffs.  You cannot swap players mid game.

The Setup

Two boards will be setup 27 feet apart from the front of one board to another.

The front of the box has constitute the the foot foul line.

Game Play

Teams will choose 2 players to start the game.. These partners will stand at opposite boxes on the same side, from the perspective of a third person, and face each other, so there is no advantage given to one team.

Each team shall have 4 bags of one color.  All 8 bags begin at one end.

The “Home Team” throws first in the first game.  The winner of each game throws first in any subsequent games.

One of the partners on the team who has honors shall begin play by throwing a bag at the opposite box.

A player may throw from anywhere behind the foot foul line.  They may venture no more than one board width to the side of the board and may not go behind the board.

Game continues by alternating throws between the two opposing players until all 8 bags have been thrown.

If a bag hits the ground then bounces up onto the board, that bag shall be taken off the playing surface.

The next round starts when the other player on the team, which has honors, throws their first bag.  The game continues until a team reaches or exceeds 21 and leads by 2 up to 32 points.

Fouls

A foul occurs when any of the following happens:

A players foot goes past the foot foul line or outside the box, termed a foot foul. A player goes out of turn. The player who caused the foul loses the throw when the foul occurred and the bag shall be removed if it landed on the playing surface.

Scoring

The score shall be taken after all bags have been thrown for a round.

Points shall be given as follows:

  • Three points for a bag that goes through the hole.
  • One point for a bag that is on the playing surface.
  • One point for a bag that is hanging into the hole.
  • One point for a bag that is hanging off the edge but not touching the ground.
  • Zero points for a bag that is on the playing surface, but also touching the ground.
  • Zero points for a bag that is hanging off the front edge and is resting on a bag that is on the ground, unless the bag on the ground can be removed without making the hanging bag fall to the ground, then one point is given.

Each team calculates their score and enters it into Scoreholio to keep detailed stats.  Scoreholio will then cancel out points to figure out the score for the round.  Only one team can get points in a round.

A perfect score would be 4 “holes” or 12 points

The team who wins the round is given honors to throw first in the next round. If both teams have the same round score then the honor of going first stays with the team who had it the previous round.

The winner of the game is the first team to get to or above 21.  You must win by 2, but it maxes at 32 points.

Forfeits

Regular Season:

If you cannot make it, you should try and reschedule with your opponent for either the week before or after.  If you do not reschedule then you forfeit if both of your players do not show up in time for your game.

The team that did show up asks a team of their choice to play them after they finish their own games for the night.  This will be an exhibition game and the team whose opponent forfeited will get a W, but their points scored will be recorded to use for tiebreaker purposes.

Playoffs:

In order to play in the playoffs you must have 2 players present who played on your team in a regular season game.  If 2 players are not present at the start time of your game you will forfeit.
